There’s Madonna. Cher. Beyonc . But Miley?
That’s right. The former Disney darling was once considering dropping her surname – despite its own fame bestowed by her father, Billy Ray Cyrus – to turn into one of those first-name-only artist.
“I was thinking about dropping the Cyrus and just being Miley,” she says in the upcoming issue of Notion magazine. “But there’s something powerful about the fact that my name now is like a household name.”
So Miley – who was actually born Destiny Hope Cyrus, but became Miley by the shortening of her childhood nickname “Smiley” – instead has decided to make the most of her moniker. “I’m living it to the fullest,” she said. “Rather than taking a blessing and making it a curse, it’s just like this is what this name is now.”
But the “We Can’t Stop” singer, 20, is still trying to define what that name means exactly in the world of pop culture.
“People have this misconception of me that I’m just one of these kids on TV and that now I go off and party and I’m just this ratchet white girl,” she said (ratchet, you ask? Here’s how Urban Dictionary breaks it down). “I’m not. I work really really hard, I’m just in a different environment. I’m young and living and in L.A., which is everyone’s dream, you know.”
