Chris Brown Released from Jail After Assault Charge Reduced

A charge against Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Chris Brown has been reduced to a misdemeanor and he has been ordered released.

Brown made his first appearance in a Washington DC courtroom Monday afternoon. He and his bodyguard had been charged with felony assault after their arrest Sunday following an altercation outside a Washington hotel.

The charges were reduced Monday afternoon to simple assault. Brown, 24, and Christopher Hollosy, who had spent the previous 36 hours in jail, were freed without bail.

“Christopher Brown committed no crime,” his attorney Danny Onorato told reporters after the hearing, according to CNN. “We understand that his security acted to protect Mr. Brown and his property, as he is authorized to do under D.C. law. We are confident that Mr. Brown will be exonerated of any wrongdoing.”

The alleged victim of the early morning scuffle outside the W Hotel was Isaac Adams Parker, 20, of Beltsville, Maryland, according to a police report obtained by PEOPLE.

The police report says Parker tried to get into a photo that Brown was posing for with a female fan when the singer said, “I’m not down with that gay s–t” and “I feel like boxing.”

Brown then punched him in the face with his fist and the bodyguard stepped between them and also punched Parker in the face, according to the report.

Parker was treated at the hospital and released.

Brown is still on probation for his assault on former girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

His sentence for that crime also included community service and a yearlong domestic violence course.
